OBLIQUELINES / 斜辺

A spatial reproduction of the photobook OBLIQUE LINES, published in November 2017 by the Italian publisher L’Artiere Edizioni. This installation combines actual press sheets printed in Italy with video works.

— Excerpt from the photobook —

“Every time I touch upon the trajectory of my brother’s gaze, I reclaim ‘something’ that had been lost. At the same time, I realized that there are numerous lost memories within my own memory.

Having lived in the same town from birth until now, my brother and I spent a long time in a blue-tiled house—the third one from the end of a cul-de-sac. The view from our room has remained largely unchanged since I was old enough to understand things: houses and apartment buildings line the area, with mountains visible beyond the gentle hills. Yet, there were moments when even this scenery felt as though it were changing second by second. It wasn’t that a large building had actually been constructed, or that the mountains had been leveled. As I looked out from the room’s window, various memories flitted by like a kaleidoscope, bringing images with them.”
